Tune in via Zoom on Thursday, January 15 at 7:00 pm CST/8:00 pm CST to hear Wallace Center Executive Director Ebony Howard present to Kids in Birmingham 1963 for the organization’s January KIDS Connect Conversation.
Kids in Birmingham 1963 is a nonprofit organization grounded in two enduring imperatives that emerged from the 1960s Civil Rights Movement: education and reconciliation. The events in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1963 marked a pivotal turning point in the nation’s modern civil rights history. At the 50th anniversary of the “Year of Birmingham,” the organization formed to preserve firsthand accounts of young people who experienced that era of resistance and resilience. Through text, images, audio, and video, the organization provides a platform and tools to document personal recollections that might otherwise be lost to history. These records are shared with journalists, writers, educators, and students, and individuals who lived in Birmingham in 1963 are invited to contribute their stories.
Ebony will discuss the Wallace Center’s work and the organization’s role in “Preserving History for a Better Tomorrow.”
