2025 Hope Scholarship Recipient, MaKayla Perkins
Congratulations to MaKayla Perkins who is the first recipient of the Wallace Center's Hope Scholarship.
The Hope Scholarship Fund seeks to honor and preserve the legacy of the people who lived and worked on Wallace land in bondage and unjust conditions by investing in future generations. Recipients have demonstrated commitment to the Wallace Center's mission and a strong propensity for leadership.
MaKayla is a graduate of Vincent High School where she graduated with a 3.5 grade point average and participated in many extracurricular activities, including band, basketball, volleyball, track, and JROTC. MaKayla recently started her freshman year at Alabama State University.
MaKayla's great great grandfather Alex McGinnis came to the Wallace land at the start emancipation and worked the land. Without a doubt, Mr. McGinnis would be incredibly proud of MaKayla.
Cheers to MaKayla as she charts this new path in life. We're so excited and proud of you.
