Out of Whole Cloth: Marking History & Making Home, 1865-1910

Visit the Wallace Center’s newest exhibit that explores the lives of newly emancipated Black Americans who lived in Harpersville, Alabama following the Civil War.

Emancipation was a beginning and an end. After 1865, millions of newly formerly enslaved people were left with the promise of freedom and few other resources. This exhibit tells the story of three groups of free people and their struggles to make a place for themselves in Alabama.

Individual tours groups of up to 20 people are available by emailing info@wallacearts.org.

Register to attend the public launch of the exhibit on Saturday, June 7 2-4 pm.
