ALABAMA WRITERS’ FORUM PARTNERSHIP
The Alabama Writers’ Forum will partner with Klein Arts & Culture through its award-winning Writing Our Stories curriculum. Through future creative writing programs, students at Vincent Middle School will explore the personal narratives and oral histories that connect us back to the land and to a common future. The program will focus on giving students the tools and the awareness to not only share the stories that make them uniquely who they are, but to re-shape the living narrative and direct its course toward higher and brighter horizons. The Alabama Writers’ Forum views the Klein-Wallace house, and the land surrounding it, as a means to give students a direct and tangible link to this state's complex past—a literal doorway into history. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, many of the traditional methods of learning will have to evolve to meet the changing needs of the students. According to Jeanie Thompson, AWF Executive Director, “The Forum hopes that as we move forward in this new and exciting relationship, we will do as we have always done, meeting the challenge with compassion, creativity, and our eyes open. Because one thing is certain: there will be new narratives to write and new stories to share.”
