“Emancipation Today” — A Webinar that Explores the Quest to Mark History & Make Home

In the Wallace Center’s first webinar, Dr. Elijah Gaddis (Auburn University), Dr. Rinaldo Walcott (University at Buffalo (SUNY)), and Eliza Jane Franklin (PhD(c)) discussed the journey that Black Americans faced post-Civil War. These experts discussed the many challenges newly emancipated Black Americans encountered in their quest to battle racism, economic hardship, and establishing individual autonomy.

The webinar was a part of the Wallace Center’s Juneteenth Celebration and honors the organization’s newest exhibit, “Out of Whole Cloth: Marking History & Making Home, 1865-1910.”
